One of the greatest mysteries in maritime history was finally solved when a Dutch-made shipwreck was discovered in 1940. The vessel, named Kapal Van der Wijck, sank in 1621 off the coast of Indonesia during a massive tsunami. It's been nearly 400 years since this tragedy and still no one knows what happened to the ship's passengers on board. This mystery has fueled many speculations about what could have transpired on board of this mysterious vessel during its voyage.The wreck itself is considered damaged with not much on its upper deck but some small units on it showing that it once had two masts which were torn off before sinking into the depths. But what lies in the interior of the 2,400-ton ship was not revealed until recently. The National Geographic has done an extensive research on the shipwreck and what they found is unbelievable. It seems that the passengers were prepared for something big, big enough to make them hide supplies in secret compartments in case they needed them when need arises.It's incredible how over decades, centuries after the sinking of Kapal Van der Wijck in 1621, its interior looks like it was abandoned just yesterday. Everything seems to be preserved well even after all that time. This book had many intriguing facts about the perceived view of life during that time period.  It revealed, among other facts, how people thought about death and what happens to someone after they die. The book had an illustration which showed that people thought that if their corpse was left unburied then it would be devoured by demons who roam around graveyards at night. If this was true, then what happened to the bodies of the people who went down with shipwreck?Another interesting find on board of the shipwreck is a small chest containing some coins and a silver plate with engravings which are believed to have been owned by one of the passengers. One unique thing about this plate is that it contains an image which is believed to have been derived from Christianity even though it contains Islamic inscriptions.  These inscriptions are believed to have been added just for safe keeping purposes because Indonesia was considered as a country full of Muslim's back then so every good Muslim would have tacked on an inscription on his belongings indicating that they are not for non-believers. One of the most important finds on board of the shipwreck was a bunch of documents that have been written in Arabic. These documents have been attributed to one of the famous travelers, Admiral Zheng He.  Zheng He was an explorer during the Ming Dynasty which has various various sea expeditions starting from 1405-1433. These expeditions led to some amazing discoveries, some of which are still unexplored today.  These are considered as one of the biggest discoveries made since Columbus discovered America back in 1492. It's obvious that the people who wrote these documents must have known about him because they are referring to him by his title which includes "Great Admiral" alongside his name "Zheng He".
